Kairos is. . .

. . .an ancient Greek word that implies a sacred intersection between time and divine purpose in which healing, wholeness, hope, and new beginnings are possible.  While it is usually translated from Greek as simply time, Kairos in reality is all about the purpose for which time is used.

Pastoral psychotherapy is all about Kairos.  The sacred trust that is established between clients and the therapist provides a space in which time can be used for the purpose of allowing clients to use the resources of their faith and of psychology in an integrated approach to healing old hurts, improving relationships, making decisions, and coming to understand, know, and accept themselves as gifts given by God.

Counseling

Kairos Pastoral Counseling of South Jersey provides psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families.  Regardless of a client's religious background, we help them make use of the resources of their faith traditions to bring about healing, hope, wholeness, and new beginnings.

Pastoral psychotherapy can be beneficial for a wide variety of concerns.  People come to see a pastoral psychotherapist for any of the following reasons:

  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Anxiety
  • Addiction
  • Personal growth or development
  • Unmanageable anger
  • Dealing with old hurts
  • Sexual identity issues
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Work or school concerns

What to expect

Clients at Kairos Pastoral Counseling can expect to have their beliefs honored, respected, and utilized for their own healing.  They should expect to have their concerns taken seriously and to be partners in healing throughout the psychotherapeutic process.

Therapy sometimes is very focused on solving a particular problem, but it is fairly common in therapy to discover that the presenting concerns are related to several other personal issues.  The therapist and the client will discuss together the best way to pursue a holistic approach to healing that doesn't forget the client's presenting concern but also takes seriously the interconnectedness of many life issues and concerns and recognizes the need to address a wide range of personal concerns in order to bring about lasting change for the client.
